The Sunflower that grew from the Concrete
Share
Sunflowers can grow almost anywhere in the world. All they need is a seed, some water, and a couple of months of warm sunlight. That’s it. With those simple ingredients, they can bloom in the most unexpected places. That’s part of their magic—how something so bright, bold, and beautiful can thrive where you least expect it.
Two weeks ago, I was walking through the city when I saw sunflowers growing out of a crack in the concrete wall of a building. No soil in sight, just this stubborn burst of golden yellow pushing its way into the world. It might sound a bit romantic of me, but at that moment, those sunflowers felt like a message. A quiet reminder of why I created the Sunflower Necklace in the first place.
Sunflowers have always meant something deeper to me. Yes, they're gorgeous and radiant—but more than anything, they’re resilient. They are known for orienting themselves toward the sun, a behavior called heliotropism. Even in less-than-ideal conditions, sunflowers will instinctively turn to face the light. That behavior—always reaching for brightness, always choosing growth—feels like a powerful metaphor for life.
You can find sunflowers blooming in places no one planted them—growing from a garbage heap, pushing through a sidewalk crack, or standing tall in a meticulously curated garden. Wherever they appear, they bring this striking sense of hope and joy, like they’re saying, “Look, you can still grow here. You can still shine.”
That’s the energy I wanted to carry into the Sunflower Necklace. It’s not just a piece of jewelry—it’s a reminder. A symbol of perseverance, of choosing joy, of finding light even when everything around you feels heavy. Whether you’re going through a season of growth, change, or even struggle, I hope the necklace reminds you of your own inner strength.
Just like those sunflowers blooming against all odds, you too can find ways to thrive, to shine, and to face the light—even when it feels out of reach.
